- 2008 Lava Man was retired, ending a storybook career as one of racings best-ever claims. The seven-year-old California-bred gelding won $5,268,706; with over $5.1 million of that coming for owners STD Stable and Jason Wood, who claimed Lava Man for $50,000 in 2004.
