Ack Ack: Demarcation wakes up on dirt
By Byron King
Daily Racing Form, November 06, 2009
In winning Friday's Grade 3, $111,000 Ack Ack Handicap at Churchill Downs, Demarcation proved his class, as well as his versatility.
A dead-heat winner of last year's Grade 3 River City Handicap on turf at Churchill Downs, he moved to the dirt in the Ack Ack for the first time since February 2008, and the change in surface rejuvenated the 5-year-old Demarcation, who rallied from the back the pack at 10-1 to score a 1 1/2-length victory over 21-1 long shot Glamour Guy.

| Race Comments: DEMARCATION was unhurried into stride, advanced from between horses through the turn, came three wide into the lane, got through inside the furlong marker and gamely kicked clear. GLAMOUR GUY settled in hand, launched his bid four wide, poked his head in front with a furlong to run, kept on well but was unable to resist the winner. SPOTSGONE rushed to the fore three deep, disputed the issue gamely but grudgingly gave way late. RILEY TUCKER vied for the lead along the inside to the final furlong and faded. GREELEY'S CONQUEST contended between horses, but weakened during the drive and finished evenly. QUE PASO was unhurried early, made a belated gain five wide but was never a factor. LET IT ROCK saved ground to little avail. JONESBORO chased the pace three wide for a half and retreated. |
