Criticism goes out a winner
By Dave Litfin
Daily Racing Form, November 01, 2009
The Goodbye Girls rule. A day after Unbridled Belle won the Turnback the Alarm in her final New York appearance, Darley Stable's Criticism ($3.30) turned in a similarly dominating performance to win Sunday's $150,000 Long Island Handicap for the second straight year.
Criticism, who posted the first of her five U.S. stakes victories in the 2008 Long Island, was making the final start of her career for trainer Tom Albertrani.

| Race Comments: CRITICISM (GB) away in good order, worked her way gradually to the lead, was taken over to the inside after going a half once sufficiently clear, continued to set the fractions while keeping something in reserve until the eighth pole, responded positively when asked for a bit more, maintaining a safe margin to the wire. LEMONETTE unhurried racing along the outside, raced three wide around the final of three turns, was asked for a response approaching the quarter pole, couldn't dent the top one's advantage but continued on with good courage to win the battle for second. BUBBLY JANE (BRZ) leapt in the air at the start, was rated on the outside until the third turn, issued her bid for the lead, wasn't up to the task and was outkicked for the place. DANCE PASS (IRE) took the inside route, slipped outward leaving the second turn, lacked a solid response during the stretch drive. BORROWING BASE saved ground until the quarter pole and came up empty. QUEEN OF HEARTS on the inside and on the lead, surrendered it to the top one after a half, disdained a potential pocket trip, swinging back outward, remained prominently placed until the third turn, was placed under encouragement to keep pace, but had nothing left to offer, steadily tiring after going a mile. |
