I stopped by LK Bennett’s very first west coast store yesterday, and right off the bat I saw four outfits that would work perfectly for a day at the races. The British brand is famous for their “Sledge” heels, worn frequently by the Duchess of Cambridge, but there’s more to LK Bennett than just a solid pair of neutral pumps.
Let’s start with the shoes. In this case, the Dahlia criss-cross sandal, a d’orsay style with a four-inch heel, made from beautiful vintage floral print cotton. This is the type of shoe around which a wardrobe can be built.
With the Dahlia shoe being a real statement piece, you should select a more toned-down ensemble. Take, for instance, LK Bennett’s Lydia tailored shift dress with ¾ sleeves and a frisky little slit up the thigh. It’s ladylike enough for a day event, while still allowing you to show a little skin (and those darling Dahlias).
What bag should you carry? Good question. If you’re packing light, select something toned down like LK Bennett’s Alexia patent leather box clutch. If you’re looking for a more functionally bag, might I suggest the Giselle relaxed leather shoulder bag?
Since a hat is de rigueur at the races, your darling Dahlias would go wonderfully with Louise Green’s Whimsy hat in natural silver. I also really like another one of Green’s creations: this fascinator with feather and rose detailing.
