America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – whose puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.
Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).
Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Best Best (Monkey Bet / Win Bet)
Saratoga Race 3
#9 Bobby’s Kitten: He ran a good third in his debut after being last in the field of nine. He closed ground late and only missed by one length. His trainer, Chad Brown, has a great winning percentage (27%) when his horses make their second start and also with horses running on the grass (30%). If he gets a much better break than last time, he will be tough to beat.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)
Saratoga Race 5
#4 Noosh’s Tale: He was too far back in has start and finished sixth, beaten by only 2 ½ lengths. He has put together four consistent efforts since May, and two of those efforts almost resulted in wins. Consistent efforts is what I like about him, and I also think he is going to be a great price given some of the other opponents on here. His jockey knows him well and post position number four should allow them to save ground around the first turn and avoid getting caught wide with this big field.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)
Del Mar Race 7
#3 Tribal Chatter: Almost pulled off the win at odds of 27-1 last out when beaten a neck at the finish line in a similar race. That was her first start on this track and she put up her career-best effort. Her only win is at this exact distance and it was with this jockey (Agapito Delgadillo). I expect another big effort from her today.
#4 Noise of the Crowd: She finished third in her most recent start when going a longer distance. She was claimed out of that start by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who is winning at a 28% rate with first-off-the-claim runners. She has tried this distance four times and two of those starts have resulted in wins. She has enough speed to take the lead or stay close to the front.
#6 Oscillator: She made her debut last year on this track, and she made that a winning effort (I was there that day, she looked impressive for that level). She then made her second start at Del Mar and finished second, beaten by 1 ½ lenghts at odds of 18-1. She went on to run five more times at the other California tracks resulting in one win, two seconds and two thirds. She likes to run and definitely likes this track. She has had good workouts leading up to this and should produce another good effort.
Best Bet (Monkey Bet / Win Bet)
Del Mar Race 11
#9 Empty Headed: He has been on a break since February when he was last seen finishing second. He has two starts at one mile and he was gaining ground late in both of those races while beaten by less than two lengths. Today’s race is a little longer, but given his style he should have no problem with the distance. The trainer-jockey combination of Barry Abrams-Garrett Gomez has done well over the years, and this horse shows a good set of workouts in the last few weeks.
Longshot Bet (Granny Bet / Show Bet)
Saratoga Race 5
#9 Rosie My Way: Her last two starts were over the grass and she finished eighth and fourth, respectively, if you look at the start before that, she finished third at a higher level on the dirt. Today’s race is on the dirt and she adds blinkers. Her trainer, Joseph Orseno, is winning at a 40% clip when his horses add blinkers for the first time (sample of ten runners). I think she will be overlooked on the betting board given her most recent efforts and we should get a great price on her.
Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet )
Del Mar Race 8
#3 Lilbourne Eliza: She was tested against Grade 2 competition in her last start when she chased a fast pace and tired to finish sixth. She gets reunited with jockey David Flores and shows four steady workouts since her last race. She faces easier competition today and looks to be the main speed in the race.
#6 Madre Luna: Her last three starts have been consistent (3rd, 3rd, 2nd) and today she stretches out to a mile for the first time in her career. Her breeding suggests she should be able to handle the added distance but we have to wait and see. Her trainer, Julio Canani, does well when he stretches his horses from a sprint to a route (29%). Her workouts are solid and jockey Martin Pedroza knows her well.
#10 Lady’s Plan: She was far back aproaching the stretch in her last local start and finished a fast-closing third to miss by less than two lengths. Her last four starts have been solid efforts on the grass. She gets the nation’s leading rider, Joel Rosario, to ride today and he is an excellent finisher. Let’s hope she gets a better position to pick them up late in the race.
