Have you ever been on the search for a truly epic fashion piece but don’t know where to start? DoubleTake Boutique should be the first place on your list.
Whether you are looking for a vintage designer dress or a one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton bag, this luxury consignment boutique with four locations in New Jersey has a wide assortment of priceless finds. Founder Marci Kessler was inspired to create the boutique after searching for a way to consign her many high-end designer clothes prior to working in the fast-paced New York fashion industry.
DoubleTake Boutique was born as a haven for luxury designer goods ready for a second life.
Kessler revealed how to create the perfect look for this weekend’s Haskell Invitational Stakes with unique pieces from her Red Bank, N.J., location (97 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ, 07701)
Mary Frances Dale: How did DoubleTake Boutique get started?
Marci Kessler: I worked in the fashion industry for years prior to opening DoubleTake. I accumulated so many clothes and was looking for a place to consign them. When I didn’t find the type of boutique I was looking for, I decided to open my own store and make it like no other.
MFD: As a high-end consignment shop, I’m sure you get some pretty unique pieces. What are your favorite pieces that have ever come to the store?
MK: Dresses worn by an Academy Award winner or a one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton bag.
MFD: How do you approach creating an outfit from vintage clothes versus brand new clothes?
MK: There is really no difference. We take great pieces, which have amazing quality, and mix and match them with other great luxury pieces.
MFD: Describe your personal style in three words.
MK: Comfortable, classic luxury.
MFD: What inspired you to become part of the fashion industry?
MK: I loved the fast-paced business world in New York and the interesting people I met along the way.
MFD: Who is your fashion icon?
MK: Coco Chanel

MFD: What do you look for when creating the perfect race-day outfit?
MK: Creating the perfect race-day outfit requires the perfect hat—one with a wide brim is ideal. Comfort is also key when deciding what to wear; you can be comfortable but still look classy.

MFD: What will you wearing to this year’s Haskell Invitational?
MK: Kate Middleton played a huge role in inspiring the look DoubleTake decided to come up with for this year’s race. Taking an icon like Kate and mixing it with styles of designers like Catherine Walker or Reiss helped us create that perfect look.

MFD: Favorite fashion designers?
MK: Everyone at DoubleTake has such a unique palette when it comes to their favorite designers. Our store ranges from designers like Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, to Chanel, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana.

MFD: What current summer trends do you predict will be popping up at this year’s Haskell Invitational?
MK: Mod is becoming a mainstream trend again. We will definitely be seeing a lot of high waistlines, very bold and bright colors, as well as patterns.
MFD: Your biggest fashion dos and don'ts?
MK: Fashion dos and don’ts are always a tricky subject. What may work for one body type may not work for another. A definite fashion faux pas is having your hat compete with your dress, pick one to be a statement piece. In addition if there is ever a “rule” to fashion it is always to feel amazing in whatever it is you’re wearing!
Many thanks to the lovely ladies at DoubleTake Boutique and if you are ever searching for a one-of-a-kind vintage designer piece, you won’t have to look beyond New Jersey’s own DoubleTake Boutique.
