On the first Saturday in May, there is only one place to be in the world. And that place is Louisville, Kentucky for the legendary Run for the Roses. Celebrities and Royalty have a longstanding love affair with the Kentucky Derby and this year is no exception. As lavish parties are thrown to celebrate the 139th Kentucky Derby, some of the hottest stars have arrived at the Louisville Derby Party Scene.

At this year’s Grand Gala, Oscar and Grammy winner, Jennifer Hudson will be performing while NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will be in attendance as well. Washington Redskins quarterback and Heisman trophy winner, Robert Griffin III will also be at the party. The Grand Gala will be held on Friday, May 3rd at the Marriott-Louisville East, 1903 Embassy Square Blvd. The red carpet opens at 7 p.m. and tickets may be purchased here at www.grandgala.com.

Ferdinand’s Ball also has an impressive VIP guest list, including Olympic swimmers Clark Burkle and Caroline Burckle; NBA star Darrell Griffith; Miss Kentucky 2012 Jessica Casebolt; Grammy award winning ESPN/ABC sports reporter Jeannine Edwards; model and NBA scout Bonnie-Jill Laflin and NASCAR personality and model, Hollie Huggins. “Clerks” actor Brian O’Halloran will also be at the event. During the event, jockey Rosie Napravnik will be awarded the 2013 Ferdinand Award, which goes to an individual who shows a passionate commitment to ethical horse retirement.

Ferdinand’s Ball is on May 2 at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 N. Sixth St. The evening begins at 8 p.m. with a red carpet entrance and VIP cocktail hour. Local band, The Louisville Crashers will provide entertainment throughout the evening. There will also be a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting the Old Friends Equine Retirement Facility, a nonprofit organization that rescues retired racehorses from neglect, abuse and slaughter.
While the Louisville party scene already boasts some of the hottest stars and athletes, the main event on Saturday at Churchill is sure to be even more impressive. With the special Red Carpet entrance for VIP attendees and their guests to the Kentucky Derby, the arrival of celebrities to the Run of the Roses is an integral part of the day.
