Out of the Gate with ... Simon Bray

TVG Racing Analyst Simon Bray has always had a love affair with horse racing. Born in Hertford, England, his father was a racehorse owner and Bray himself trained Thoroughbreds, working for the late, revered European conditioner Sir Henry Cecil and U.S. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott before striking out on his own in 1998. After retiring from training in 2004, Bray was a freelance journalist prior to his current positions on the horse racing channel TVG and as an analyst on 'The Jockey Club Tour on Fox', where he takes pride in educating fans about the sport of horse racing

How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred racing: My family owned racehorses growing up. I used to go to the races as a child in England and I got the bug.

My favorite racetrack: Del Mar and Keeneland

My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: Royal Ascot

Other sports/teams I follow:  Golf, Los Angeles Lakers

What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred racing: Uniformity and working together as an industry.

What I would like to see less of in Thoroughbred racing: Races running on top of each other. (Two tracks running races at the same time.)

My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: Winning my first Grade 1 as a trainer with Astra in the Gamely Handicap at Hollywood Park in 2000.
