Lone Star Park opened its doors in 1997. The track offers two separate meets for Thoroughbred racing and for Quaterhorse racing. 

In 2004, Lone Star Park was the site of the Breeders' Cup and for that event the seating capacity was temporarily increased to 50,000 seats to accommodate the racing fans who attended that event.
