Bred: Sean Fitzhenry (On.)
Sire: Medaglia d’Oro
Dam: Instant Thought, by Kris S.
Millionaire Marketing Mix races in the famous rust and black colors of Leonard Lavin’s Glen Hill Farm, carrying on the farm’s decades-old turf tradition. Unraced at two, she started unsuccessfully on dirt, then segued to turf with a winning trip on Polytrack.
She has been remarkably consistent, rarely out of the top three throughout in her career. Marketing Mix runs right behind the pace, then comes on with a late kick. She has won from the inside, outside, and between horses. She was more aggressive earlier in her career, so her rider would keep her behind horses, but she has become more relaxed and confident with the help of regular rider Julien Leparoux and trainer Tom Proctor.
Marketing Mix was bred by Sean Fitchenry in Ontario, Canada. Her sire is Medaglia d’Oro and her mother is the Kris S. mare Instant Thought. She was brought for $150,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Marketuing Mix won a pair of Grade 2 races in Canada in 2012 before a hard-fought runner-up finish in the Beverly D. Stakes (G1) at Arlington Park. She subsequently punched her ticket to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) with a victory in the Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita.
