Guidelines for 2009 Media Eclipse Awards are announced
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) today released the guidelines for the 2009 Media Eclipse Awards. The awards are presented by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers Association for outstanding achievement in the coverage of Thoroughbred racing. Eclipse trophies will be presented to the award winners at the 39th annual Eclipse Awards Dinner on January 18, 2010 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Louisville Golf Tournament raises $49,000 for NTRA Charities
The ninth annual NTRA Charities & Kentucky Derby Museum Charity Golf Classic was held at the famed Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., on Monday, October 5. Net proceeds from the event will benefit NTRA Charities and the Kentucky Derby Museum Klein Family Learning Center.

The Jockey Club releases 2008 breeding statistics
The Jockey Club today reported that 3,439 stallions covered 56,901 mares in North America during 2008, according to statistics compiled through Sept. 9, 2009. These matings have resulted in 31,727 live foals of 2009 being reported to The Jockey Club on Live Foal Reports received as of Sept. 9, 2009.

Saratoga Race Course receives accreditation following review by NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance inspection team
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced that Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., has been fully accredited by the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance following a complete review of all racing operations at the facility. Saratoga is the eighth racing facility to be so designated by the Alliance. Churchill Downs and Keeneland were accredited in April; Belmont Park received accreditation in May; Delaware Park and Hollywood Park were accredited in June; Monmouth Park was accredited in July; and Arlington Park received accreditation earlier this month. Pimlico Race Course was granted provisional accreditation in May.

NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance announces formation of subcommittee on aftercare
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance has formed a special subcommittee focusing on aftercare of retired Thoroughbreds. The goal of the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance Subcommittee on Aftercare is to work towards a national solution to issues surrounding retired Thoroughbred racehorses, including enhancement of aftercare funding and improvement of compliance and best-practice standards for racetracks and other industry participants.

The Jockey Club 2009 foal projections amended
The Jockey Club announced today that it is projecting a 2010 North American registered Thoroughbred foal crop of 30,000. In addition, The Jockey Club has revised its original estimate of registered foals for 2009 from 35,400 to 34,000.

Satish Sanan, prominent Thoroughbred owner and breeder, was appointed to the NTRA Board to represent Breeders’ Cup. Ltd., effective as of the next NTRA Board of Directors meeting in September in Florence, Ky. Sanan replaces G. Watts Humphrey.

Labor Day weekend to serve as national fundraising days for the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that Saturday, September 5, Sunday, September 6 and Monday, September 7 have been designated as national fundraising days for the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance. The Alliance, formed last October with the goal of establishing national uniform standards in the areas of safety and integrity, includes 55 racetracks in North America and every major national horsemen’s organization.

Monmouth Park to host $100,000 Super Qualifier for 2010 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship

In preparation for the shooting later this year of the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures' movie "Secretariat", Mayhem Pictures, the producers of the film, will conduct an open, online "casting call" for horses to portray the legendary 1973 Triple Crown winner.
