The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that the American Horse Council (AHC) will become a partner in NTRA Advantage, the NTRA's group purchasing program, which offers substantial cost savings on products and services from companies including John Deere, UPS, Toshiba, Office Depot, Sherwin-Williams, Hallway Feeds, Equine Travel Advantage and Moxie Equestrian.

The agreement is similar to NTRA Advantage's relationships with the American Quarter Horse Association, the United States Equestrian Federation, the United States Trotting Association and Harness Tracks of America (HTA).

"We are delighted to welcome in the American Horse Council to the NTRA Advantage Program," said Terry McElfresh, Senior Vice President of NTRA Advantage. "The participation of this large and respected organization will significantly strengthen the collective buying power of NTRA Advantage and allow us to generate even more savings for the horse industry."

"The AHC is pleased to be able to participate in the NTRA Advantage Program," said Jay Hickey, President of the American Horse Council. "We believe this will be provide another service to our members, both individual and organizational, and add even more value to AHC membership. The savings available on the products and services under the program are significant, particularly in these tougher economic times."

Founded in 1969, the American Horse Council has a membership consisting of approximately 160 equine organizations and 1,200 individual members from virtually every facet of the horse world. It promotes and protects the equine industry by representing its interest in Congress and in federal regulatory agencies on issues of national importance.

NTRA Advantage delivers substantial cost savings—through local dealers—on products and services from its Official Suppliers. Value-added services are also available through NTRA Advantage, including employee training in equipment operations and usage surveys that help buyers develop a long-term buying strategy based on equipment needs and the timing of their purchases. To date, NTRA members have saved more than $60 million through the program.

The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horse racing interests consisting of leading thoroughbred racetracks, owners, breeders, trainers and affiliated horse racing associations, charged with increasing the popularity of horse racing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA has offices in Lexington, Ky., and New York. NTRA press releases appear on the NTRA web site, NTRA.com.
