The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that UPS (NYSE: UPS) has reached a three-year agreement to become an Official Partner of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA). As part of the agreement, UPS will be designated as the Official Express Delivery & Logistics Provider of the NTRA and Breeders' Cup World Championships. Additionally, UPS completed an agreement to become an Official Sponsor of Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
The NTRA agreement is effective immediately and will provide members valuable discounts on UPS services. The Official Partner status also means UPS will handle the NTRA's small package and freight shipping volume, plus UPS will receive hospitality opportunities at various major racing events throughout the year, including the Breeders' Cup World Championships, which this year will be held on November 4 at Churchill Downs.
"We are very proud that UPS has decided to join the growing roster of major corporations that support Thoroughbred racing," said Chip Campbell, senior vice president of television and sponsorships for the NTRA. "This deal highlights again the mutual benefits to be had by tapping into the collective buying power of the Thoroughbred industry."
Louisville is home to UPS Airlines, the ninth largest airline in the world, the UPS Worldport all-points global air hub, and the largest logistics campus for UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
"UPS is making a strong commitment to the Thoroughbred industry by offering its broad range of reliable products and services at significant discounts to our members," added NTRA Purchasing President Joe Morris.
